How do I teach my child Magic Breathing with SNOObie?

Magic Breathing is Dr. Harvey Karp’s calm-down technique for kids 2 and up that helps tots turn their motors off! And SNOObie’s two Magic Breathing tracks (Fast Magic Breathing and Slow Magic Breathing) were designed to help parents teach their children this powerful practice. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Find a comfy space free from distractions. Relax your face and body, and encourage your kiddo to do the same.
  2. Turn on SNOObie. Use the Rainbow Light Slider to pick a light color and use the Soundtrack Selector to navigate to a Magic Breathing track (we recommend using Fast Magic Breathing when you’re starting out).
  3. Inhale and exhale slowly along with SNOObie’s breathing track and pulsing light. Practice relaxing the face and breathing out a bit slower than breathing in. Fill your body up with air as the light gets brighter, and breathe out as it dims. To help your child visualize this even better, lift your hand up with each inhale and let it gently drop on your exhale (almost like you’re an orchestra conductor!).

Teach Magic Breathing when your child is calm and happy, but with some practice, they’ll be able to use it to self-soothe when they’re upset!
