First, grab a partner! The safest way to assemble a crib is with two people. There are full illustrated assembly directions within the crib packaging that you can download at the end of this article. While we encourage you to check out the full, illustrated instructions, here’s a summary:
- Find the four sides of the crib frame. (They’re on the top layer of packaging.)
- Take eight wooden dowels from the bag labeled “For Step 1.” Use them to build the crib frame.
- From the “For Step 2” bag, use four barrel nuts, washers, and bolts to fasten the frame together.
- Use eight bolts and washers from the “For Step 3” bag to fasten the legs.
- From the “For Step 4” bag, use two dowels to secure the footboard to the frame. Then use four bolts and washers to fasten the footboard to the frame.
- From the “For Step 5” bag, use four bolts and washers and fasten the two corner posts to the footboard.
- Use two dowels from the “For Step 6” bag to attach the minor sides. Use four bolts and washers to fasten them to the frame.
- From the bag labeled “For Step 7,” use four washers and bolts to fasten the minor sides to the corner posts.
- Place the mattress spring inside the crib on top of the frame. Flip up the attachment brackets at each corner of the mattress spring. Use four bolts from the “For Step 8” bag to attach the mattress spring to the minor sides of the crib. (The mattress support should be at the highest level if your child is a newborn and the lowest level before your bub is just about ready to stand.)
- Use two dowels from the “For Step 9” bag to attach the headboard to the frame. Use eight bolts and washers to fasten the headboard to the frame and minor sides…and you’re done!
